Programmes and mode of education
The Danish VET system also offers VET programmes combining a general upper secondary education and VET. The programme is called EUX, and it qualifies students for a job and provides formal eligibility rights for entry into higher education in a wide range of programmes. An overview of all EUX programmes can be found at UddannelsesGuiden.
EUX programmes are structured in the same way as corresponding vocational education and training (VET) programmes: The programme begins with a base course (grundforløb) and continues with a dual main programme (hovedforløb). The programme includes subjects at upper secondary level during both the basic and the main programme.
This structure applies to all VET programmes with EUX, except for the mercantile (business) programmes.
Mercantile EUX programmes are structured in a different manner. In these programmes, students complete the upper secondary subjects within a one-year study programme before commencing the dual main programme. This is referred to as the ‘study competence programme’ (studiekompetencegivende forløb).
The mercantile EUX refers to vocational education and training programmes within the commercial/mercantile sector, including the office clerk programme (kontoruddannelsen), the trade and retail programmes (handels-/detailhandelsuddannelsen), the finance training programme (finansuddannelsen), and the event coordinator programme (eventkoordinatoruddannelsen).
EUX is mandatory for the office clerk and the finance training programmes.
